Description
JML Engineering was awarded the Pardee Road Bridge over the Pine River project in late 2009 by the Municipality of Neebing.
The proposed location of the new Bridge was at an existing crossing that was removed approximately 20 years prior as the Municipality desired to reinstate the crossing. JML prepared a Pre-Design Report for the crossing which considered horizontal and vertical alignment, span, width, navigability of the watercourse, fish habitat, environmental requirements, hydrology and hydraulics, and various rehabilitation and replacement options.
For the hydraulic design, the Ministry of Transportation Directive B-100 titled ‘Design Flood Criteria’ was considered. In addition, the Regional Storm was modelled using HEC-RAS software.
A single span, single lane bridge consisting of a transversely nail laminated timber deck, steel girders, and steel pile/timber lagging abutments became the preferred solution.
JML Engineering obtained all regulatory approvals prior to detailed design for the project, including MNRF, DFO, Transport Canada, and LRCA.
JML Engineering completed the detailed design for the project and prepared IFC drawing and specifications. The project was tendered in early 2010. JML Engineering provided tendering, site inspection, and construction administration services during construction.
Construction began in June 2010 and was substantially completed in October 2010.
