Description
JML Engineering was awarded two projects with Lakehead Public Schools for Renovations at Hammarskjold High School. Exterior renovations consisted of re-paving of parking lots, re-paving of the Ring Road and upgrades to stormwater management infrastructure. Interior renovations included the kitchen, foods rooms, science rooms, library and upgrades to the building automation system.
The existing parking areas and Ring Road were in poor condition, so a Geotechnical sub-consultant was hired to compete an investigation. Based on the field investigation poor soils were excavated and replaced with granular material.
Stormwater infrastructure upgrades were required to comply with the City of Thunder Bay’s no-net-increase in stormwater runoff from the site. An extensive camera investigation of the entire system was completed to document as-built conditions and provide a condition assessment. A stormwater pond was created as well as an infiltration trench to reduce runoff. The new stormwater infrastructure also needed to accept stormwater from the new drainage system being installed below a new, nearby sports field.
Interior renovations to the kitchen, foods rooms, science rooms, library and upgrades to the building automation system were all completed by sub-consultants but overseen by JML Engineering who was the Prime Consultant on the project.
JML Engineering completed field investigations (Geotechnical, camera inspections of all stormwater), topographic survey and interior measurements. During detailed design all work by sub-consultants was co-ordinated into the final drawings and specifications package. During construction JML Engineering completed periodic site inspections and full time inspections for paving and other critical items.
